Greetings,

Some of the small outboard Guru's might be able to help with this question. As noted on my Mercury thread (recently revived), I have been disassembling my 1969 7.5 HP motor (Serial 263XXXX). According to the parts list (that I have found online) the flywheel is '239-4174A1' The stamping on the flywheel that I took off the motor is '219-2246' o_O.

I cannot find a flywheel on a parts list of that number. I am just wondering if the flywheel is for an older motor or if the part number got changed . . . or something ???

Thanks for any help in finding '219-2246' on a parts list . . . 🙏

Never Mind . . .

I found it . . . on the Mercury website. '219-2246A4'

I think I better check some of my other part numbers . . .

Nice, the important thing is that the flywheel is for the right ignition system.
Older 7,5 and 9,8Hp used magneto system (no electronic system).
Maybe not the 7,5Hp, it was introduced in 1969 or 70 and in this era the electronic system became common on smaller engines.
Think the 7,5Hp, 9,8Hp and 20Hp had different typ of systems, magneto, Thunderbolt phaser make with points and Thunderbolt without points etc.
Sorry for the nostalgia but the early 70s is when I grew up and when I became interested in OBs.

Yes, it looks like the 7.5 HP came out in 1969. My brother actually bought one brand new back then with money he earned at his first job while in high school. $300 +/- if I recall. He sold it a couple years later for $200 ish. and bought something bigger.

The 7.5 HP looks to be a slightly watered down 9.8. Probably done via throttle setting or something like that.

Anyway, I found a more reliable parts list directly on a Mercury website.

The 7.5 models usually have a sticker on the block.-----It says ---COMET----in white letters.------The 7.5 has basically the same internal parts as the 9.8 model.------The intake ports on the 7.5 are SMALLER , thus restricting airflow and power output.
