I'm still assuming that as I can't see the screw in the centre that mine has a cover over the top of it that I need to lever out, or drill through to access the screw/bushing? And once that's out, I can remove screw, put a longer screw in to aid with pulling the bushes out?

what color are the decals? Blue? that would be 1982-1983, or Brown 1984-1985.

my guess is you have a 1985 since the serial numbers for 1985 start with 6611886 and go up to A196291

these exploded views may help.

the bracket should bolt to the bottom of the cowl if my memory is right.

the friction discs on the steering in the swivel bracket assembly will probably be worn. I made new ones at work out of delrin.

It's blue decals Scott. . I thought it's 1982 unless the cover was replaced at some point. Just looked at the middle link you posted, and that's what I have. That is a cover held in by the circlip. Gonna try and lever it out at the weekend, or failing that, drill a small hole in it to insert a screw, then I'll have something to pull on to remove it 😊

Update, I have managed to remove 3 of the 4 mounts, had to drill them out due to rusted retaining clips. Stopped on the 4th, as there is a bar joining at the back, a link rod reverse lock?? Not sure how to remove that or from which end.
The mounts are as the attached picture, and like rocking horse sh*t in the UK!! I see there's some that has a screw in the middle and a metal cover, will they fit? Ch eers šŸ˜€

Sounds like the shift shaft. Remove the lower unit and the shaft(s) will come out with it.

Still going with this šŸ˜– I have the mounts removed now, found some new ones to replace, I have disconnected the link rod reverse lock, so I thought now I should be able to lift the engine away from the saddle! Nope, the shift shaft goes down through the steering part attached to the saddle. Is the shift shaft bolted at the lower end? Or should it just lift out?

Did you remove the lower unit yet?

Got any more pictures to post? Can you post a pic of the serial number plate?

shift shaft is splined on both ends. there is one "dead" spline for alignment

No thought I would leave lower section on and just remove engine and prop as one piece. Will take some more pics and post

Thanks Ted I'll do hat at weekend then. Will that then free up thextop section of the shift shaft and enable it to come out still attached to the shift lever?
Not sure . . . your engine is quite a bit newer than mine. But I think taking the lower unit off is a step in the right direction.
