Considering a 75 HP Mercury optimax or a 75 HP Mercury 4 stroke to go on an 18 foot pontoon, which would be better on fuel?. Your thoughts please.

Depends on the load, prop and rpm that its ran most at. Also what years motors as the 75 4stroke came carbed or efi depending on year.

The optimax will have more torque as it is a two stroke.. I have a 115efi 4 stroke which is great on fuel and very quiet at idle but cannot duplcate two stroke power..Remember every other stroke is a power stroke...For the pontoon I would go with the four stroke..You don't have to have the on board oil tank and buy special oil...Just my 2cents.....

IT would be either a 2009 Mercury 75 HP optimax or a 2010 mercury 75 HP four stroke.

they get close to the same fuel mileage..I would defiantly go with the 4 stroke on a pontoon boat and make sure you prop it right..probably a 13 pitch.

If you just going to pull tubers go with the 4 stroke with a 4 blade prop.
