mercury 850 thunderbolt question

i have a 1977 mercury 850 , needs a water pump impeller replaced.where is it located? is it difficult to do by myself? i'm a decent mechanic,handyman,i just have never done this on a larger outboard before.

If you know your engine s/n, you can see the waterpump breakdown under GEAR HOUSING ASSEMBLY, COMPLETE.

If you have a problem, post your s/n.

pick up a service manual. It is not hard, but the book will really help.

gerry, i checked out this diagram.now i understand how it goes in. i'll get me a repair manual at a marina for my make of my motor,i should be ok. thanks again for your help.
