mercury 9.8 cant find serial number please help

:facepalm:for the life of me i cant find any seven digit number on this engine or on the swivel brackets ( no tag) the only seven digit number i found was 941-7375 this must be a part number - i have looked for tags , numbers stamped on the engine you name it . i found a 1468-5592 part number? (8 numbers)

the only number i found that was stamped on the power head read : SER. NO. 189 and thats it . the cowl reads mercury 9.8 thunderbolt ignition blue and white stickers on it it does not say 110 on it anywhere it has the mercury carb on it. i have looked everywhere for a seven digit number either there was none or im blind .

I heard there might be one under the fly wheel but im not going to tear back into this thing again - i want to replace the impeller any help would be great.

i have read and read and looked everywhere but under the fly wheel .

have you looked down by the lower unit, some times there is a small plate just above where the lower unit bolts on.

no plate there either - does the serial number have to be 7 numbers?

most likely should look like this unless its stolen and some one pealed it off.

There should be a welch plug , silver an about the size of a quater, on the block that should have SR# on it.

there was no tag anywhere - havnt checked for the welch plug yet - im wondering why the full number wouldnt be on the engine itself. it would be nice to know if somone could give me a year range and a seriel number range that i could go off of to get some parts by. I would like to replace the coils. and impeller.

the engine is a 9.8 the cowl is black with blue and white mercury stickers - it has the thunderbolt ignition - it does not say 110 anywhere on it. does anyone have any ideas?

get the part number off the fly wheel, if you can find a spot where you can look under the fly wheel with a flash light and turn the wheel till you see the 7 digit part number and cross refrence it. i will do it for you, that should get you close. there is only two 9.8 sections made by mercury, but they very by serial unfortunately. apparently iboats wont let me paste a URL to boats. net so i will do it.
