The Power pack is not sending spark to the spark plugs on my 1978 merc 110 9.8. I don't know what the problem is so I would like to know how to test the:

power pack
stator
coils
trigger

Re: Mercury 9.8 powerpack

Thanks for the info.

I check everything today, 3 times, and everything is within operating specs. I'm getting 180+ volts to the + side of the coil, the trigger is working fine, the coils and power pack are grounded, and the spark plugs and wire are good. Also the kill switch does not have a problem, its not even connected.

There is only 1 thing that seems weird, I'm only getting 6 or so volts from the stator. I think that it should be more but I'm not sure.

Re: Mercury 9.8 powerpack

If you have 180 volts at the coil the stator is working and if the engine has spark on 1 cyl then the trigger is working also, swap the 2 coil input wires and see what happens if the same coil won't fire the coil is bad if the opposite coil has fire then the box is bad,

I don't have spark on either plug, I have 180 volts at each coil but still no spark. Everything that needs to be grounded is grounded. I don't know what the problem is.

Re: Mercury 9.8 powerpack

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!! I disconnected the - wire from the coil, pulled the rope a few times, reconnected the wire and got SPARK!!

Thank you Laddies for the spec sheet, without it I wouldn't have known everything was good which caused me to question other things and eventually led me to the coil wire.
