I have a 1997 Mercury 4stroke 9.9 on a 10 foot Dory, here in Dartmouth England. The average temperature is about 17-22 degrees centigrade. The engine has about 20 hours since new.

On start up, it fast idles and is fine, after about 2-3 minutes the idle speed drops and it stalls. Starting is then difficult. After re-starting you have to get the engine really warm, about five minutes, before you dare pull away from the mooring. This fault has been with the engine since new, don’t ask about Mercury technical help in the UK…

I am technically competent, although maybe ignorant in some areas, and I have the genuine Mercury Service Manual. Any ideas folks ?

Regards

Dave
