I'm trying to decide which motor to use on my boat, one is a 1999 9.9hp Big Foot and the other is an 2002 15hp standard. Both are long shaft, The 15hp was a salt water used motor and there are signs of rust here and there but is still in very clean condition. Both starts on the first pull. while the 9.9 big foot is a fresh water used and appears to be in cleaner condition and have slightly less hours hours.

The price are the same on both. Value, performance dollar for dollar which motor will give me better bang for the bucks?

At this point I'm leaning toward the 15hp for 2 main reason. It's an 02 and it's 15hp, being newer and higher HP rating, the resell value will be higher so when the time comes I can at least make some of the money back to help fund a the new motor

My 2cents, it depends on what your using it on, and for.

If it's just as an aux or for trolling, I'd lean to the smaller motor for fuel economy, cleaner motor etc.
If it's your main motor, I'd go to the bigger of the two.

Resale would only be a minor consideration to me as the difference between the two may not be worth quibbling over when compared to the value you get out of them.
