I've just purchased a 90hp mercury blue band 6 in line. Both trim cylinders are leaking fluid heavily. I guess it must be the seals as the rods do not appear to be pitted. Is it a straight forward job to change the seals as only removal of the cylinders is covered in the manual?

Stuart,

You need 1 of these for each cylinders.

-64507A1 Repair kit.

Once you have removed the end caps it's a very straight forward job.

Chris.............

Stuart, I have replaced the oring seals aroung the rods, on my '77 Merc inline six several times. I have have replaced the piston seal only twice in 30 years. The rod orings are of a common type, and are available anywhere. They are also easy to replace, if you have a spanner to remove the rod-end of the cylinder. The trick is not to remove the piston from the cylinder, since a special tool is needed to put it back. The piston detaches from the rod via a 9/16 bolt. Then you pull the rod out of the end cap and replace the oring.
