Re: Mercury and Mariner? what is the diffrence?
G'day. Here is a brief history of Mariner, Mariner was introduced in the mid 1970's and all the motors were made by Yamaha, however the company is owned by Mercury. Maximum power at the time was I think 60HP. Over the years all the motors have been replaced with Mercury built motors, the last Yam built Mariner was i think a 40HP in 1989 (except some four strokes, see below), Merc and Mariner are now identical except for the colour of the cover. However in recent times Merc and Yam have been making motors and parts of motors for each other. powerheads for 9.9, 15,and 25 four strokes are yam built, 30, 40 50 60 Four stroke powerheads are Merc built and used by Yam. Merc are also working with Tohatsu and I think building gearboxes for Honda, so basically everyone is in bed with each other.
