i just recently bought a 17.6 ft skeeter bass boat with a mercury xr2 150 hp black max. i can get it to about 53 miles per hour but when i try to trim it out the front end starts to bounce. i am wondering if this is the prop that is causing the problem or if i just can't find the sweet spot. i know the motor can give me more speed but i am scared to play with it when it starts to bounce.the prop i have now is a 23 pitch.

I posted this up a couple years ago, it's a good read with lots of feedback about props and some other issues that can affect prop/boat performance.
It may be of some help to you as well, good luck........Irv964

Re: mercury black max propping?

I've got a 17' 4" Hydra-sport with same eng set-up.
2 things can be the cause here (in most cases)...#1, we need to know what prop model that 23 is. I'm assuming the engine is mounted on the transom with no jackplate?
If the prop is not designed to hold the bow up, it will porpoise. If the eng. is too far back with a bow-lifting prop it can porpoise too.
Is the eng. mounted as high as you can go and still have water pressure?
