Mercury bottom end on Mercruiser

OK this is a long shot-- anybody know if the bottom end of a '76 Mercury 1115 will fit on a '76 Mercruiser 888? Cause I'm sitting here looking at both of them and they look really close.

The driveshaft is much shorter on the Cruiser lower. But the main difference is a passage for lube that the outboard gearcase doesn't have.

Very good---thank you sir. I wheeled the 1115 out of the garage on its stand to start it up and run it for a bit and the 888 was parked in the driveway and they were sitting next to each other ----- and I got to looking --- then I got to thinking----then I got to wondering........wouldn't it be nice if something happened to one of the lower units I basically would have a spare I could "borrow" for a while if I needed. Oh well -- I guess thats what a savings account is for.
