Mercury check engine light ??/

2001 225 mercury after idiling past the no wake zone jump on plane then the check engine light comes on ..... idle back down for a few minutes then it seems ok for a while . The shop has not a clue. Any Ideas would be appreciated. thanks

Does the check engine light mean check temperature?? oil injection ?? water in lower unit ??

My 99 200 merc does the same thing. Been in the shop now 2 weeks. They said it had something to do with the 4th or 5th coil? I'm going to pick it up today so I'll let you know more. Never had any problems until I had a 100 hr checkup.

Just got back with my boat. No more check engine light. They said they hooked it up to the DDT and it showed the 5th coil was bad.However the DDT was wrong. They changed the 5th coil to no avail. Had them stumped. They called Merc. and were told the DDT showed the wrong coil was bad...and that it was probably the 4th. Surenuff...the 4th was bad and this also caused a fouled plug($28)+ $100 coil + $130(2 hr) labor. They said they had 40 hrs labor tied up in it but would give me a one time great deal since they've already gouged me many times. Hope your guys solve your problem...
