Mercury Classic 50 wiring question

Hopefully this is the right place to post this.

I just purchased a 1985 Mercury Classic 50 (sn 0C145XXX). This has power tilt and trim. It came with the Quicksilver control.

My questions are about hooking up the controls. I see where the cable enters the engine, and plugs in (8 pin connector), however, there are several (Green, Blue, Brown, Black/white tracer) individual wires with connectors on them that I have no idea where (or if) they connect to the engine.

I also see where the positive battery cable connects to the solenoid, but have no idea where the negative wire connects.

The Quicksilver control has a short cable with a 5 pin connector (plus a brown wire) coming out of it. I believe this is for the tack and tilt/trim indicator. Do I have to make any connections on the engine for this or are these wires part of the 8 pin connector that plugs into the engine?

I have a Clymer Mercury Outboard Shop Manual, but there is no engine installation information in it. Is there another manual that I need to get the information necessary to install this motor on my boat?

Thanks for your assistance.
