Hi all
as you can see from my video, my mercury classic fifty, 45hp 1986 belgium built model number 09463337 runs no problem .
I have aquired this engine with the boat i have just bought, i knew the impellor had gone and needed to be replaced, so after reading many of the threads about lower unit and driveshaft removal on here i decided i have the same problem as many of you guys on here."Siezed driveshaft"??????
I have managed to aquire a used gearbox , so went about dismantleing the old lower unit as there was going to be no quick or easy way to lubricate or remove gearbox.
I have tried shimming , i have tried standing engine on its head and used 2 tins of liquid wrench sprayed directly onto the driveshaft and let stand for nearly a weak, as you can see after removing old gearbox via cutting away from driveshaft i am now left with a perfectly running engine with a siezed driveshaft sticking out of the bottom.
I have tried knocking downward with big hammers and wrenchs tried to make up some sort of reverse puller with metal clamp on plates and winding down two bolts either side to try and part by spreading but still to no avail.Has anyone got any ideas of driveshaft removal as i have tried all that i can think of.Oh by the way i even tried heating from bottom of drive shaft with a blow torch hence starting engine as i was unaware at the time of damaging oil seals etc higher up.Thanks Fluidjuice
