I have a 1975 Canadian built 150hp in line 6 Mercury motor (serial number 7057991) I am trying to locate a complete distributor. Any one out there possibly have one, or if not what am I looking at price wise (I can get a complete 75hp Mariner w/all controls for $1500.00). Should I let the Merc go for parts (has sentimental value). I checked the Mercury dealer and some of the parts are NLA (no longer available) and I am not sure what parts are needed ? ? I was just told I needed a complete distributor. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks Rick H

Re: Mercury Distributor Hunting

Hey Rick, I have three dead inline6s in me storage shed fer parts. Two are silver blocks and one is a black block, (like yers).

One is a 1968 1250 that ran fine when my son torched #3 and the powerhead burned a bit, but the distributer should be good. The second silver block is a 1971 (I think) 1150, and the last one is a 1976 black block 1150. The last two were purchased fer parts: PERIOD. So I don't know their status at all. The distributers are still on all of em.

I could part with one of the silver blocks, (as I run two silver blocks and two distributer fired black blocks). I'm not sue which ones would interchange, as I guess the early triggers had some differences. If one of the silvers would work I may help ya out, but I'd hate to part with my black block. I can get the serial numbers for the two silvers if you wanna check it out with the big guns or online schematics (as I do to check what would work). Let me know.

BTW: I fould most of the parts engines on Craigslist.

Re: Mercury Distributor Hunting

Honestly I would not have a clue what would be or would not be interchangeable between the 2 engines. My Mechanic does not have internet yet so I am looking to see what I can find. The boat was left to me by my father in law who passed away last year (i had her running for 60 sec) I wanted to sell it and get something smaller (no bigger than a 40hp) I have no need for something that big, but if it does not run good luck selling it. I would like to say thanks for takin the time to read and respond to this and previous messages. I am hoping someone out there may have one out there some where. Thanks again Rick H

Rick I bet they would ALL three interchange.

The two silver blocks are the exact same cubic inch as yers and there are many FREE sites to check schematics online.

Look at all the inline6 threads here on iboats for some sites and go check it out. Serial Number of the 1250 is 2481025.

Ya use that to get the parts schematics to compare with yer girl. I can get the 1150 later if the 1250 does not werk. Good luck. I would not put too much in it for resale, as those motors, (running fine), are real cheap on Craigslist here in Seattle. Good luck, JR

Most (all) 6 inline's in the 70's are the same...plain and simple (well, kinda)...but look for a 78 up...offset #3 trigger window...cured the torched #3 piston (sad day JR...Flatty put away and covered..)

Yep..pulled the SS and tried it. Cavitates more when nailed (a cup would cure that, but its not a problem really), and hits at least 5000 plus. Problem was that day the wind picked up, got a little too rough, slammed a wake, and my back still hurts from that one! Parked it, and have used the big boat since. It comes out tomorrow, and thats it for this year...time to re-group, and prepare for next summer (IF we have one!):D

Wow did you find a good mechanic in the Sudbury area didn't know there was one. lol. I have ordered parts from 'Boatfix.com 'they were fast and much cheaper than our 2 dealers here . Especially now our dollar is finally back up.
