Greetings I am new to this Forum. I have a 1974 Merc 3 button dual ram power trim on an 1150 Inline 6 Tower of Power. The problem that I am having is the motor is climbing out of the water in reverse. I was told that if you have the power trim the reverse lock mechanism is not needed. In my case the mechanism is removed so i have no Idea what it even looks like. Are the cylinders supposed to pressurize in reverse? Do I need this reverse mechanism? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

all depends on the pump being used. As the name implies the reverse lock locks the cylinders when in reverse to prevent the kick up.The newer pump dont have that feature. It is done in the pump itself.

I may have found the solution. This tag is missing on my pump but i found this pic on the web. I thought the knob was just for releasing pressure to raise and lower the motor by hand. But this tag tells me a lot. LOL
