Mercury Force engine badging?

Hey, folks.

Last Summer I purchased a 1996 19 ft Bayliner Capri BR in mint condition with an outboard that has the following badging "120 HP FORCE by Mercury Marine - Performance Series with MSD ignition - Limited Edition". Has anyone seen or heard of such an engine? The motor looks like it just came out of the box and runs like new (50 hours on the meter) screams on the water. I am aware of the Force engine and some of the past history, but I have never come across or heard of one with the MSD ignition and badging as mentioned above. The hull is apparently a rare edition (Correct Craft Hull) for this offering called the Bayliner Extreme Olympic Edition?

I am wondering if someone just put some of there own badging on this engine, or if in fact such an offering was produced my Mercury?

Does anyone out there have any experience or does any one have information/history with this combination.

Regards.

Never heard of one, outboard or the hull.

Does it indeed have an MSD ignition system? If so, I would bet it was a backyard job.

I wonder? I guess I need to have a closer look because at first glance the engine looks professional with nothing obvious that stands out to indicate someones been messing around. I think it might be the case that someone put a sticker on the engine cowl only?

I had another closer look again under the lid and the mercury emblem is stamped on the electronics - it looks like someone stuck a few little MSD stickers on the engine - what the heck for I have no idea? I mean the motor starts and runs fine thus far.

Model and serial numbers would be very helpful.

Check the number, there are too many numbers after the E

Boats hull ID number has nothing to do with it, and hate to be the one to tell you, but with that HID number, you have a 94 boat, not a 96. The last 2 numbers in the HID are the year.

OK, sorry - OE062201 is the correct #

Interesting, I have a 94 not a 96 - I suppose the engine is of 94 vintage as well?

Thank's for your help Don.

Yes, your motor is also a 94. That extra 6 in the serial number was the problem.
The model is an H120412PX, ELPT version

Wow! Thank you for the info. What exactly does ELPT version indicate? I suspect the model and version numbers are what I need for parts, correct? Do you happen to know if it is easy enough to get parts?

regards.

ELPT Electric, Long shaft, Power Trim.

For parts, the SN is all you need from a Merc dealer. Availability depends on what you are looking for exactly. Even if you want to use aftermarket parts, find the OEM part number for the part, then cross it to aftermarket. Year doesn't always tell you everything.
