Mercury Force trim problem

The motor is a 1996 40 HP Mercury Tracker Force. The problem is that the tilt will only lower the motor and won't raise it. When I launced the boat last saturday it went up & down as designed. But after a couple of times raising and lowering it won't raise anymore. It does still activate to lower though. I did successfully jump the toggle switch to eliminate that. Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Mercury Force trim problem

I have the same problem with my 94 force 70. On occaision it does work to both raise and lower, but will usually only work to lower. When it does not work, it does not make any sound, and when I need it raised, and it is not working I take off the shroude, and reverse the two wires (positive and negative) and raise it by using the down switch, then unplugging and putting the wires back to ther correct polarity. I have no other complaints. :D <br />Walt

I followed the wires from the tilt motor up into the case then to 2 relays. Are these the wires you are talking about. I am electronically challenged. As I stated I did bypass the toggle switch so the problem must be further down the line.

Try swapping the relays if it now trims up & not down you have a faulty relay.I have a 1996 60hp that did exactly the same thing
