So, I have this old 1963 Mercury Kiekhaefer 650 4 cyl 2 stroke outboard that I am attempting to restore, and I am trying to adapt the fuel fitting on the motor to the fuel line that connects to the tank. I bought a hose with squeeze bulb that has the splash proof fittings (hose is 3/8" diameter). The merc has a female fitting that is made of aluminum and has what looks to be some kind of ball check in it. there is a threaded hole, 1/4" female npt, into which a 1/4" male npt x 3/8" hose barb fitting is currently threaded.
1) does anyone make a mercury female fitting with 3/8" threads? the hose adapter is plastic, with 3/8" male npt on one end, and the "splash proof" click type connection on the other end.
2) would I be better off just cutting the splash prevention coupling off and using the hose barb and some hose clamps?
3) is a visit to my local hardware or plumbing supply house in order to find either a 3/8" female npt x 1/4" male npt fitting or some variation that will mate up?

I've got new plugs, checked the wires, checked compression on 3 of 4 cylinders (can't get the compression tester on the bottom cylinder), and verified that my starter a) works and b) will turn the engine over. I'd like to see if fuel and spark will make this thing run before I start investing more money in parts and maintenance.

I know this crowd loves pictures, so I took some, just cant seem to get them uploaded.
