Mercury mariner 25 hp 2 stroke NO SPARK

My Mercury 25 hp 2 stroke has always ran fine then one day I took it out and when I went to start it all I got was a click. After turning the key a few times the starter finally engaged and it started. I took it home and tried to restart it and the same thing happened only this time it was all clicks. I have checked the small things like kill switch ect. I ordered a new solenoid cause when I tested it I found that it was bad. I took the spark plug wires and shorted it to the block and still no fire. Would the solenoid cause this? can anyone help? The motor is a 1999 Mercury 25EL 2 stroke. I would appreciate any and all information anyone could give me

Yes that was the first thing I did. I’ve checked battery,starter,kill switch ect

What are we talking about here? Do you have no power to the starter or no spark at the plugs? Will the motor start with the pull rope?

I have full battery charge and starter engages but when I took off the spark plug wires and shorted to the block I have no spark. I replaced spark plugs , starter, star solenoid and 20 amp fuse. Dont know why I wouldn’t have spark . I checked the kill switch as well. What else can I check and how do I check it with my ohm meter?

Your process of checking spark is not the best method...Get an adjustable air gap spark tester at ant auto parts store ($10.00).

Set the gap for 7/16"...spark should be bright blue and have a real SNAP.

I will get one tonight and let you know. Exactly how does this work? I also have a sark tester that you plug into the spark plug wire then plug onto the spark plug. When you turn over the motor it’s supposed to light up. Will this work just as well or no?

I’m a wee bit confused or reading it wrong.
So are we saying you saw no spark against the block and also the engine isn’t turning over and just clicking ? You’ll likely know that they won’t spark unless you are turning the engine over with fair pace ?
if I have it wrong...apologies and test the coils

I had a guy turning over the engine while I was shorting the wire against the block. I saw no spark.

Get the adjustable spark tester...they're more accurate and how to use it will be obvious.
