A couple of questions....

When did Mercury introduce the Mariner line? Are they identical to the "real" Mercs except for the obvious cosmetic changes? It appears that the Mariner name has been dropped?

As for the Force; I realize that they are totally different engines (I used to own a West Bend way back in the 60's...which I realize became a Chrylser and then became a Force...and which then became a Mercury Force.

When did Mercury drop the Force? Does anyone (besides me) wonder if someone will resurrect those designs and enter the market with another outboard brand again?

I know that I've read about all this here in the past...but even after spending time with the new search tool...I cannot find meaningful threads. Hopefully there are others out there who would like the reference.

Thanks for reading, Chuck

Mariner history:
http://www.mercurymarine.com/company_history

Mariner engines 50hp and up were simply re-branded US merc engines. Not sure, but I believe below 50 they were rebranded yamahas or some other brand.

I think Force was finally eliminated in about 1999. They were extremely simple, but obsolete designs at that time. I doubt there would be any value in bringing back any of those designs. There is no way they could meet today's emissions regulations.
