Going through the pile of outboards and found this old Mercury. I have been able to narrow it down to 1953-1955 but then it seems to run out of any info. Anyway the info I have found is listed below. Also, what is the liklihood of finding any arts for this motor. I know it will need a lower unit casing because of a small chunk missing where the propeller shaft sticks out. I don't know if that can be welded and repaired. The coils seem to be shot, but haven't tried replacing the condensors and checking circuits yet. It seems to have good compression. Here's the info i have, any help is greatly appreciated.

Consumable parts are available. Likely has a Bendix-Scintilla magneto (bakelite cover and crankshaft-mounted magnet), for which coils are available, but pricey. Some parts available through www.oldmercs.com . Motor is well worth putting some time and money into. Did you get the 2-line pressure tank with it? If not, you can use an OMC pressure tank with a Merc connector in its place. Or, not hard to convert to fuel pump.

Re: Mercury Mark 20 identification

Thanks for all the information on this outboard. I guess my biggest issue right now is the lower unit housing wich has a 1/2" chunk missing from the propeller shaft housing more than half way around. I had a picture but for some reason it isn't uploading. will try again later.
