looking to find a lower unit for a mercury Kiekhaefer 72' model 200 20hp OB. needs to be a short shaft. ser 3229680. EDIT

I inherited from a late brother-law a rebuilt power head. I just need a lower unit for it.

Sorry, but you'd have better luck finding Jimmy Hoffa. You and everyone else that owns a '72 merc 20hp are probably hoping for the mythical GOOD lower unit for one....... There's lots of good powerheads. Great motors, though, when they weren't so old and with pitted drive shafts and rusty gears.

darn JB, your not giving me much hope... I have found a couple of old used ones.. around $200-$300. Seems rather high for a 40yr old used gear box in what kind of condition.

I have a complete old motor my dad had. Probably hasn't been started in 20 years. In storage, not sure if it is a short shaft or not. I might be interested in selling for parts. But I want to make sure it doesn't run first.

I have 98% of a 76 20hp merc 200..... (parts for my working 78)that said I was/am really attached to the idea of having a spare lower for when/if i bust up the one i am using. They are rather hard to find...especially in good condition. What I did looking for last one was searched craigslist... I searched it hard... mine cost $50 complete engine in a box.... as in "in parts" look, put up wanted adds...and expect to pay a few 100 for it... I was lucky as all get out. Oh the other place to find em...is Ebay... that is where i got my 83 johnny 15hp lower w/ driveshaft, prop, waterpump..... for $35 shipped.... but you have to be willing to search for a few weeks...and take a chance.
