mercury MODEL number

I've a '83 Merc 7.5 serial #6297257. When I look for parts, am asked to spec the MODEL number. nothing on the shaft plate but the serial #. Apparently, the 7.5 '83 model numbers were 1007203, 223, 503,and 523. Can't find any #'s close anywhere on outside or inside of engine. Appreciate any advice. Thanks, tom

Well your Model Number is 1007203, Serial No: 06297257, 1983 MERCURY 7.5 M

Not sure of the other numbers you posted, But here's a link to your engine parts using your serial number.

Thanks! I've only been on the forum for a month or so, but I cannot believe how much info is shared. It is a tremendous resource to say the least. Thanks for the link as well, saves another half hour at least.
