Mercury Model Number

I am trying to purchase parts for my 1995 Mercury 25HP electric start motor. The tag on the mount shows the serial number as OG338911 and in another box is written 1996 25 EL. I have looked on Mercury's site and know my motor was produced in 1995 because the bottom right hand box is marked 95. Whenever I log on to any site that sells parts, the list of model numbers contains about 20 or more and none are similar to 1996 25 EL. Can someone tell me how to find out my exact model number or where on the net I can find info about model number identification.

For looking up parts your engine is considered a 1996 MERCURY TRACKER 25 EL, Model number 1025312SN

Your service manual part number from mercury marine is going to be, 90-826883R2 Also FYI, This part number has now been Superseded to 90-826883R03. And It covers engines, 20 JET, 20, 25, 25 MARATHON, 25 SEAPRO, HP's.

Thanks for the info. It really helped but can you tell me how you determined the model number so I can look it up myself in the future. I also have a model year 2000 motor and another unknown model year that I use for parts and want to cross reference the part numbers.

Sure, You'll need to call a Mercury dealership and ask them to look up your engine serial number, They should be able to give you the model numbers on certain style engines that have been either manufactured by or registered with mercury marine.
