Re: Mercury oil filter
Hello, seems like I stired some people up on who is at fault. Here is the whole story than maybe you can better answer it again. Took boat too dealer this spring to have serviced. They did bellows shift cable and changed fluids. The boat is a 1988 268 Sundancer. We keep boat in a slip and use it more to spend the weekends on at the dock. Boat only had about 3 hours on it after serviced. Why only 3 hours because the weather. No I didnot hear lifters nor any engine noise because engine sits down inside compartment with carpet over it. Engine was only at 3000 rpm so it wasnt very loud to begin with. My understanding is it only takes seconds for three quarts of oil to be pumped out at 3000 rpm that is about when damage starts to happen. I dont know how long a engine will run without oil but guessing not long. This boat Im guessing has only 30 hours on it in the last three years when we bought it. No sirens no bells just a gauge and no I was not watching it at the time. I was coming into another marina looking for friends. I did take boat back to dealer 3 weeks ago and still sitting there. A Mercury rep did come and look at filter but said nothing wrong with it. i didnt mention before but engine froze up. Oh to stir the pot a little more, stoped by dealership last week to look at boat. There was a puddle of oil under outdrive leaking from the fill hole and the oil that was leaking out was milky looking. So question is did i get all I paid for? Hope I better expained myself and you get a better picture of what happened. Thanks for all your time
