Ah yes, time to winterize...sigh. I have some left over "fresh" Mercury lower unit oil from winterizing a 50 horse Merc. Can I use it to fill my 90 horse Evenrude? will it hurt anything? Isn't lower unit oils pretty much the same? I wouldn't be mixing any oils.

Also does anyone know how much oil the Evinrude LU holds? Thanks

As long as you don't have an electic shift LU that requires type C lube, the lube you have is fine. Capacity is aroudn 23 ounces. Don't forget to replace the vent and drain screw gaskets.

Might seem like a dumb question, but how do I know if it's an eletric shift? It's a 1984 Evinrude 90 horse V4 VRO

Yours is not an electric shift. An electric shift unit wouldn't have a shift cable. The shifting would be done through electric wires. I'm not sure, but I think they did away with electric shift in the late 60s or early 70s.
