Is it stalling in nutural or when you put it in gear, if it's stalling putting it in gear it's probably the the shift switch.

I having the stranges problem, let me explain! Mercury optimal 225 To begin with we replaced the computer, spark plugs already and that didn't do anything!

It has been hooked up to Computer, Fuel and air gauge to motor and could not verify problem.

Only sometimes when you first star the motor it will stall, when it does this it will continue to stall until you reach a certain speed.

Once you reach that certain speed it quits, then if you go from that certain speed back into neutral it does not stall . But if you turn key off and fish for 10 min, then fire it back up it will do it again, but again not every time only when it wants to ! How strange! Sometimes when it goes to stall it will rev up then stall.

I don't get any warnings on smart craft gages at all!

Please help any one.

I am now having issues with a 2006 250 XS. Random stopping at idle whether in or out of gear. Had on fuel filter. IS getting better after by-passing in-line mercury canister filter.. No problems at speed. had all pumps replaced with some improvement. still has a random stall after fishing for 30 min. or more. after a good run it shows no problems though. My issues are MUCH like yours. A TPS could show some randomness...but how about thermostats?? Also, the hi-pressure pump is "sqealing" a higher pitch sound a little more than I have noticed in the past. When this first started to happen I just couldn't get it to run long at all. I replaced all pumps $$$$ and bypassed the extra fuel filter. Much improvement but, still stalls (multiple) after a good run and cool down for roughly 30+ min.

is that motor the original motor to your boat or was that motor recently put on there bought from another boat or a new purchased motor?
