Hello,
I have a 2000 Mercury Optimax 225 XL that keeps revving like WOT upon start-up.
So I've read through the multiple forums and everything lead toward the fuel regulator on the port side. Plus I did a test someone recommended using the schrader valves. I had fuel come out of the air side.
I odered the regulator, pulled the old and inspected it but there was no sign of issues. I put the new one in of course. I then tried to start the motor to clear any additional gas that could have been left in there. Multiple tries and still revving. I then supplied air to the schrader with a compressor to clear anything else out. Still no luck. I'm also trying the limit how many times, and how long this thing revs. I don't want to do any damage.
I have also unplugged the TPS to rule that out. Unplugged I believe it should just idle since it would be not getting a signal. The TPS was added new the beginning of this year anyway.
I have just taken of the tracker valve and see no visible signs of an issue. Plus from what I've read a bad tracker usually just causes a stalling issue.
Shutter on intake is closed.
Back to why there would have been gas in the air....
All the injectors (air and fuel) with new O-rings where replaced this year. Could an o-ring on a fuel injector be the issue?
In another post someone said a stuck injector would cause the rev, I'm not convince though. Possible??
What else could it be???
Every time I've had an issue with the motor, it's never the same easy fix everyone else has
Thanks for reading!
