I am new to fishing and I just encountered a problem. I have a 1978 bass boat with a 1978 Mercury 150hp V6 engine. It was running great until I ran into a sand barge. No damage done anywhere on the prop, however, when I pulled it out, the engine runs fine, but it has lost all its power and barely gets enough speed to move.

Is something blocked? Please help...

Howdy, Russ.

You will have much better luck with an engine problem on the Engines and Motors Forum.

Good luck. :)

Doe the motor still seem to run right. If so you probably damaged the hub inside the prop. It has a rubber insert between the prop and the splined sleave that slides over the output shaft on the motor. This is sometimes called a clutch. If the hub is stripped the motor will start and run fine.
When you put it in gear the output shaft will turn and slip inside the prop. The hub will nolonger tranfer the torque from the propshaft to the prop. It is not very expensive and pretty easy to replace. Some are pressed ino the hub and some slip together. I did the same thing on a submerged tree stump with a suzuki outboard a few years ago.

Russ, saperry is on the right track I believe, it is a rubber shock hud, you can send it in & have it replaced They can just press in a new hub, you can also buy a hub & make the funnel tool your self, but it might just be easier to send it off & have someone do it, you need a special rubber lube to get them in. I use to do my own, i twisted afew hubs in my day, so of the over hub exhast props run smaller hubs that don't have enough bite & its not all that uncommon to twist them.

good luck.
