I just got my boat out of storage to get it ready for this summer and have one question about the trim and tilt , how and where do you check for fluid levels? looking at the pump which is in a fairly tight area to get at i could not tell where to check level of fluid also i noticed the the pump is mounted at a 5 degree angle, its a 115 h/p early 80s thanks Ron......

Re: Mercury outboard trim and tilt

First let me say I am not experienced with boats. I just filled up my 1977 jetster/115hp mercury outboard tilt pump. I bet it is the same as yours. There is a drain plug you use a 3/8 ratchet to turn. You must unmount the pump & motor from the boat to get to it. There should be a bounting bracket you can unscrew from the boat. Be ccareful not to damage the hydrolic lines (I put mine through way more stress than I would if I knew better). It should say what oil to use. mine said 10-30w or 10-40w (motor oil). I have read some use dextron III. I would not mix them use oil if that is what is in there or tranny fluid if it is red. It says to fill to the bottom of the theads. There is also a brass screw driver plug in the hole. Don't get any dirt in the hole. Hope you have better luck than me my tilt is still not working.
