Mercury outboard, what's it worth?

I purchased a 1996 Mercury 75hp outboard in 2002 and for various reasons it only got used briefly the first season. It's been stored in a climate controlled garage with relatively low humidity @ approx. 53 deg.F. It ran good when I removed it from the boat. I'm at a dilemma as to whether I should sell it and move on or re-install it and use it. The boat it was taken from was completely disassembled at that time and remains that way. Many hrs. of work and several hundred $$$ await me to make it sea worthy again. I'd like to determine what it's worth before I make a decision.

Check eBay and Craigs List in your area to get an idea of value. Prices jump all over depending what part of the country so it's best to look at local prices.

Checked eBay and Craigslist, couldn't really find anything close. NADA said about $1.1k. Basically it only had 6 years worth of use not 16. So I'm guessin' it's worth more than that. I don't know if there's an hour meter on it, but some say hrs. on an engine are a poor indicator of an engines condition. So now what?

Post a CL ad saying for "make an offer" I hate that kind of ad but you might get an idea.
