Mercury outboard year?

I just bought a boat with a mercury outboard. I need to know the year. The number I found is 0G250561. It is a 60 hp outbard.

Where did you find that information? I have a Mercury 500 (50 HP). I think it is a 1971. Can you verify that? Ser. #: 3173741<br /><br />Jeff

I have a Merc 500 also, serial number 2516583 and from what info I have it is a 1969 and yours seems to indeed be a 1971. Also, if anyone has any ideas about how to get my engine running good again, please take a look at my post also. It's called Mercury 500... need some info.
