agaun the low oil warning sensor is going off telling you you are low on oil FILL THE OIL TANK TO FULL OR THIS WILL NOT STOP. once the sensor detects low oil it will not stop until it does detect oil the only way to get it to detect oil is to totaly fill the tank to the top and the sensor in the cao will then detect oil and it should stop at that point

G'day Chop,I'm thinking max missed your post where it said OIL FULL lol.Still wiping tears away.Anyway the constant beeeeeeep is overheat and the intermittent beep...beep...beep is oil warning. If overheat horn is happening with key on and engine off and cold, I would be checking the sensor.they always play up.

Re: mercury overheating i think

I had a yamaha that did the same thing. From my experience with it Mercury, Yamaha, Johnson all have the same type of system. A switch on the head that when closed or opened (forget the position that makes it beep) sends a signal to the alarm making it beeeeeeeeeeeeep. My guage always read cool, but the alarm said other wise. So I changed out the switch on the head and problem was solved, I forgot how I tested them to see which one was bad.....it was really simple though.

Re: mercury overheating i think

Sheesh.........

The alarm circuit is comprised of an alert noisemaker or light connected to key switch power, and to a wire that goes to a terminal on the starboard side of the engine just above the switchboxes. On that terminal are 3 wires. One to the alarm, one to the overheat sensor, and one to the oil alert.

Take off the wires to the overheat sensor and the oil alarm and turn on the key.
>>> still noise, there's a short to ground in that wire to the alarm.
else
connect the other wires back one at a time. The one that sounds the alarm goes to the defective part.

Hope it helps
John

Hi Chop,If you have disconnected your overheat sensor and it still beeps when key is on,then you have a faulty warning module...replace module.

Re: mercury overheating i think

Disconnect at the terminal strip I told you about. If the oil module and the temp sensor are both disconnected and it still beeps, the wiring is shorted.

Warning module at motor.I have 1988 v6 and my manual also features the xr4 150.so I figure this info is good.
