Mercury parts vs aftermarket rebuild kit?

Hi all,

I've torn down my mercruiser 3.0 and am doing rings, bearings, gaskets

The engine took in some water (during a rainstorm.. somehow?..). There was an obvious knock after starting it up (without knowing about the water). We found some damage to one bearing but everything else looked pretty good. It's going to be sent to the machine shop prior to any further work.

My question is are these aftermarktet kits any good? The cost is substantially different... about $300 difference between rebuild kit vs piecing it individually through merc.

Love to hear your thoughts!

Internal engine parts for the Mercruiser 3.0L are just GM engine parts, aftermarket parts are just fine, but be sure to buy quality parts, not cheap bargain parts.

I bought a complete engine rebuild kit through Green Bay Parts World, and they supplied all quality name brand parts.

(Your like didn't work for me, wouldn't open...)

I read that to say, you MAY get quality parts or you may get cheap crap. It depends on how much profit we will make.

I’m a fan of cheap parts when labor is free, getting a defective part won’t cause a more expensive problem and I or a friend can look at the part and know if it’s suitable for the application. If I can’t meet all 3 of them, I go with OEM parts.

Ayuh,..... Don't buy Any parts, til yer machinist has evaluated yer hard parts,.....

He'll match the parts needed to his machine work,....

'n then consider havin' yer machinist also bein' yer internal parts, Supplier,.....

In the long game, it can be cheaper, 'n no doubt safer,......
