I have a 2004 150hp Yamaha Vmax and am in need of a prop. I found a 25P Tempest Plus that I would like to buy but am not sure that it will fit. I know Merc/Yammi are usually interchangeable, but don't some of the newer Merc's have a bigger prop shaft? The Tempest came off a 2001 225 EFI Merc. Anyone know if it will work for me?

Ayuh,... To the best of my knowledge, the hi-horsepower Merc.s are runnin' the same propshafts they've had since the 60s....

That prop will not fit on your Yamaha.

Yes Mercury does make a motors/outdrives with bigger shafts. They are 1 1/4inch diameter shafts and are typicallyfound on the Mercury Pro XS motors.

That prop probably will fit a Yamaha. If it's hubbed for a 15 spline Merc shaft it will work with the right thrust washer, no big deal. If it's a square bore prop it will fit any motor with the right hub kit.

I'll Agree, this prop should be able to fit.

According to the flo-torq Hub Kit part number list, The Tempest Plus prop uses Hub kit part number 835257K6, This number is used for the Mercury V-6 Outboard engine using the Tempest Plus, Trophy, & also the Mercruiser Rev 4 & Bravo 1 standard style props (under 400 HP).

So knowing the Tempest Plus will work with the above engine packages, It does appear that in order to make the Tempest Plus prop work on your 150hp Yamaha Vmax engine, You'll need to order Hub Kit part number, 835274Q1 (Hub Kit for the Yamaha 150, 200 & 225HP EFI 4-Stroke engine).

All the information was found in the link below.
