I have had this block sitting around for a while. It is rebuilt. Got it on a trade. It is 4 cyl. On the net it comes up as a 3 cyl. 1985. Anyone know what the hp and year really are? The original aluminum plug is missing and new one put in without a # on it, just a stamped letter M. This # is on the block. Want to try sell it but don't know the correct hp and year.

4 cylinder blocks were 40 cubic inch blocks, 44 cubic inch blocks or 66.6 inch blocks.
40 in. 35, 40 hp crossflow
44 in. 40, 45, 50 hp crossflow
66 in. 75, 80, 85 hp. Direct Charge, some Power Ported

Wonder if it could be a 90 as someone wrote 90 in white grease pen on the block?

Do not believe Mercury ever made a 4 cyl 90 hp. The 90s were built on TOP blocks and later on the 3 cylinder Block.

I forgot the 4 cylinder loopers. 100/115/125 hp. I guess I never considered them mercs. I think they were about 105 cubic inches

Does it use 2 or 4 carbs?

?----Find someone who has a ----" where used list "--------It is a comprehensive document where the part # is listed and all the motors that use that part.-----Forgot there are no dealers in your area any more.----And I know that this list is on MICROFICH cards.

Looks like 2 individual carbs were on there. I will take photos of this today and post. Thanks for the input!

When you take the pics, take a good one of the transfer cover(s) on the starboard side of the block
