I bought an 18' Shadow Bass boat with a V6 oil injected Black Max on it. It has no sticker on the cover to indicate what size it is. Is there a way to find out engine size, Date and place of manufacture etc... I have seen on this site that some folks look up serial numbers and tell others who bought it and from where and who owns it now. I was amazed by this and would like to find out some background on this motor, but really want to know year and size.
The serial is 0B 156004. Thanks, Paul.

What year Shadow?? If its a mid to late 80's it a good one. The 18' performs best with a 12" jackplate, nose coned lower unit set with nose 1/2" above pad and a cutdown 26" big ear chopper. With 2 persons and medium load easy 68-73 mph ride if driven correctly...

Wow, Boat tech thanks man. I was thinking it was probably a 115 but hoping it was a 150. WOW-a 200, that blows me away. Thanks for the parts link too. That will come in real handy. I just changed the water pump yesterday (I guess it was the right one ?) I also drained the gear oil and found a thicker than oil silvery looking substance that smelled like the bottom of a pond. I changed the oil and after I put it in the water this weekend, I will check it again. BTW, I know nothing about boats or Motors, only the info I have gathered from the pro's at iboats :) After some reserch I think it may be the shift shaft seal leaking? Thanks again and if there is anything else you think I may need to know about this motor feel free to message me. Thanks. Paul.
Faztbullet, the hull is a 1990. I am very interested to hear what you think would make this hull and motor run at its best. I bought it for the kids first ski/tube boat. I have already figured it will need something to help get on plane. Is that what the 26" big ear chopper is?? I also have no Idea what a nose cone is? I can tell you that it has a Turbo jack plate on it. This measures about 10" off the boat so I am only guessing that this what they call a 10" Jack plate? It also has some markings on each side which are set at 2 and a half. I had some photos on my laptop but cannot get it to power up. I am trying to save them from my hard drive but it wont let me access them. If you need a pic to help you help me I will be glad to take one from which ever angle you need. Thanks, Paul. BTW, I think this is the very boat I bought. I think the guy I bought it from bought it from him. Its the Black and Blue one, second down. http://www.ultimatebass.com/bass-fishing-forum/index.php?topic=1023.20

No real slithers to speak of. The little magnet on the bottom screw had two or three furry looking things on them but they just squished between my fingers. I was looking for metal fragments but found none. I tell you what it reminded me of. Have you ever used slick 50 engine additive?? Thats what it reminded me of. I used it in My motor cycles years ago. Is there an additive for gear oils??
When you say let the engine down, do you mean lower it at the jack plate to about 1 inch??

I have just been looking up nose cones and 26" big ear choppers. I have a stainless steel prop on my boat that has some engraving under one blade that reads "precision propeller, Turbo 171 141/41/26" Not sure what all this means or where to look.
