I have a question about the testing of a Mercury Quicksilver voltage regulator number 883071A1.

The red stator went bad on my boat, so I ordered a new one. I confirmed that it was bad by resistance testing.

I tested my voltage regulator to determine if it was bad according to the manual and concluded that it is. The part of the testing procedure that was failed was the flow of current from either yellow wire to the ground. No current would flow in either direction even when the meter probes were reversed.

I bought a new regulator, and it checks out the same as my old one. There should be current flow between the ground and either yellow wire in one direction but not the other when the leads are reversed. The new regulator shows no current in either direction, just like my old one.

Both regulators show identical resistances and proper current flow between the red wire and both yellow wires.

Do I have two good regulators now or two broken regulators?
