I have a 93 Mercury XR6 150 - Motor runs great once it starts, trouble is at first crank even with fully charged battery (1000 mca - 800 cca) it drags as though the battery is dead. Battery is brand new. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Re: Mercury Start Problems

Most likely cause is bad cables or connections from the battery to the engine.
Take them off, check for weak spots, clean them carefully and reinstall.

Let us know what results you get.

That brand new battery could be defective too. If no problems found with the wires, have it load tested to be sure.

Re: Mercury Start Problems

Thanks! JB
I removed the old wires and replaced them and with the first crank of the key she turned over like the first day in '93.

Thanks Again! and Safe Boating,

Chris
