I am looking at a boat that has Mercury 300 . It was manufactured during Covid so it has the paint issues with the lower unit that seem to be pretty well documented. As far as reliability goes , does anybody have the good and bad on these motors. I never owned a Merc so I am just trying to make an educated buying decision.
thanks

If your asking about the motor and not the boat, if its a first Gen Verado I would pass. If its another 300 then advise which one?

Have the motor checked out by a shop.----Total time , events and RPM levels.-----Big motors are often owned by folks who do not budget expenses.----May have a lot of time on it.----Not owned by fishing people.---Computer / ecu may list at $8000 or so.-----Buyer beware.

Maintenance records mean NOTHING
The motor was beat to death by wannabe racing knuckle heads.
racerone routine is best way.

The V8 verado is a well documented OB with many thousands of run time on them. As with all motors there have been some issues but overall they are very reliable.

Fishing boat is a good choice for the motor. Runs out, trolls, runs back
