Mercury xd 25

I just bought a Mercury XD25,,,,messed with it all morning and finally got it running but I dont think my primer is working,,when I push the button fuel squirts out a hole in the cap,,myquestion is how does fuel get to the carb,,I push the button and I dont see any fuel squirint into the carb,,im pretty sure im missing some parts off the primer,,any help appreciated

Had a buddy hold the prime button down while I pulled it over and it cranked,,I know im missing plastic parts,,will have to find a donor and improvise something,,these parts are no longer available

If you have fuel coming out of the cover of the primer your diaphragm is shot. Buy a complete carb kit as it will have the primer and fuel pump diaphragm. Time for a.complete rebuild. The fuel for the primer travels through the carb and exits a hole in the base into the intake.

I wish I could find those plastic parts that connect to the front of the carb but have not been succesful finding them so far,,
