Re: Mercury Yamha vs Evinrude

Welcome!!

Evinrude doesnt make any 4 stroke motors, they are Suzuki's. Merc only makes one and its an in-line 6 cylinder. The rest of Merc's are Yamaha's.

This has been discussed in great detail in the General Outboards section. Don't be suprised if we get moved there.

Good luck!

Re: Mercury Yamha vs Evinrude

Howdy, A Townsend.

For a couple of years Suzuki 4 strokes were marketed as Evinrudes. Those were essentially the same engines now badged as Johnson.

The DF40 Suzuki/Evinrude/Johnson is EFI. I believe that the Yamaha/Merc 40s are carbureted.

EFI makes a world of difference on a 4 stroke. Quicker starting, smoother operation, better fuel economy, cleaner. . . just like EFI cars vs. carbureted cars.

Either engine is a good engine. I just really prefer EFI.

Moving this to General Outboard.

hey guys,

personally myself may go the less performace route, but i stick with reliability, thats why i stick with carburated, overall if there is a problem with them, i find them easier to work on, more simple if you will
