metal shavings in carb???/??

Welcome to iboats bohagen. We really need more information to be able to help you. Where in the carb are the metal shavings? What kind of metal? How big are the pieces? How did you find them? Does the motor run properly?

If you give a lot more info on what your problem is, I'll bet someone can easily help you fix your motor. It's pretty simple and it is a good motor, too.
I have a few questions:
1. Is the motor new to you?
2. Did you take the carb apart because it was running rough and find metal shavings? If it has shavings in the carb the only idea I have is that someone tried to get out the high speed jet with the wrong tool and broke off some of the brass off of the slotted end of the jet.
3. What is the motor doing that you don't like? Is it idling rough or dying on idle, or is it having problems accelerating or what?
The more info the better! Try to be very descriptive, as the experts here have heard it all and can better understand your problem.

yes i just got the boat...today i got the carb off an there was just a lil dirt in there then i called the guy i got it from an he said that it has been rebuilt but they did not replace the crank bearings an thats why it's doin that but i put gas in the spark plug holes an it cranked right up an ran good intill it ran out of gas i got the model # it's 35e766 seral # e4595853...can anybody tell me where i can get parts for it like the crank bearings and the gasket im sure im goin to need an i need a fuel line thanks some much guys!!!!

Metal shavings in carb and reusing crank bearings are two seperate issues. Metal shavings came from the fuel somehow. Depending on which bearings, I have re-used them without a problem, especially needle bearings. Most likely your metal shavings are from dirty contaminated fuel. Clean out your tank and carb and then try again.

Crank bearings?????? Did you mean the carb had been rebuilt or the powerhead had been rebuilt? THere are no CRANK BEARINGS in a carb that I've heard of.....If you have a dirty carb then clean it, put in a carb kit, and make sure your water pump is good and run it. I don't understand the crank bearings and gasket thing. Maybe someone else does.

no the bearings in the motor is there i a way i can see if the bearings are bad without having to take anything apart an when i crank it how much water does the motor shaft have to be in what should i do like i said i put gas in the spark plug holes an it cranked right up then cut off after the gas ran out i have to order a gas line for it

there is definitely no way to see if the crankshaft bearings are bad without taking it apart. Why would you want to? If they rebuilt it without replacing the bearings hopefully it was because they didn't need to. I suspect if the bearings were bad, the crankshaft would be bad also. If you have good compression, run it. You can get a good used powerhead for the cost of a good rebuild or cheaper. I like to have the motor in water about 3 inches under the exhaust or about 6 inches above the water pump housing.

Bohagen, the engine cranked and ran when you added fuel. What does that tell you?

Forget sea stories about rebuilds and crank bearings. They have nothing to do with supplying fuel. That guy knows even less about engines than you do.

The crud in the carb bowl will clog up jets and orifices, preventing fuel from getting to the engine. They must be meticulously cleaned, not just looked at.

Overhaul your carb and fuel pump using a Service Manual and clean your fuel lines and tank. Put a water seperating fuel filter in the fuel line.

If you are still using the metal tank that came with the motor in 1976, replace it.

That's where the metal in your carbs is coming from.
