Bohagen, the engine cranked and ran when you added fuel. What does that tell you?
Forget sea stories about rebuilds and crank bearings. They have nothing to do with supplying fuel. That guy knows even less about engines than you do.
The crud in the carb bowl will clog up jets and orifices, preventing fuel from getting to the engine. They must be meticulously cleaned, not just looked at.
Overhaul your carb and fuel pump
using a Service Manual and clean your fuel lines and tank. Put a water seperating fuel filter in the fuel line.
