Hey Iboats!
This past weekend, I replaced a worn impeller in my I/O. (1977 Glastron T179, 140 Merc/GM 3.0, with MR outdrive. SN: 4648535, also stamped: 1.98R)

Everything went smooth until I decided to run it a bit again on the muffs again today (mostly to fell good about a job well done...) This time, I heard a metallic like chattering sound that I may have missed when doing the first driveway test. It sounded like it was coming from the lower area of the drive near the prop shaft.

I also noticed the prop shaft was turning very slighty while the boat was in neutral. I checked that it went into forward and reverse properly, and it did. It behaved normally when doing that. In neutral, I stopped the prop with my foot with barely any resistance.

Someone said on another post that I read that the shafts may have gotten bent during reinstallation. The shafts seem VERY stout and they went in without much forcing at all, so I am not sure that's it.

I followed these instructions to replace the impeller.
http://www.mercstuff.com/waterpumpinst.htm

I have the Chiltons, but we all know how good those are [Roll Eyes] .

Any ideas or am I being hyper-sensitive to noises that have always been there?

thanks!
Corey
