In a recent thread there was talk about as seen on t.v. products and I thought about my Metrinch tool set that was heavily aired on t.v. at least 10 years ago. Just out of curiosity was wondering what some of you real mechanics that have used them think of them. I use mine all the time and personally I love them. I'm not a mechanic but use them around the home on cars and other things and they have never let me down. It is one as seen on t.v. product I would give a full two thumbs up!

Re: Metrinch tools

Yea, I have a few.
I have the 2400, 2450, and 2460 sockets.
0450 combination set and a 15 piece spanner set.
Have always worked good for me.
Have never rounded any off or any lug nuts.
Good tools.

I have Craftsman and some snap-on also.
Just saying I have some Mentrinch and they work well also.
FYI, they are far from junk.
They carry a worldwide free replacement warranty just like the big boys do.
I have had Craftsman and Snap-on tools break too.

Re: Metrinch tools

In my opinion these tools are far from junk, I've used the wrenches on rusted up nuts while pounding on them with a hammer and with all the abuse they have taken not one has broken on me yet. But I still wonder what a mechanic that has used them in the field might feel about them. I do plan to one day buy some snap-on tools but until then I know I can get by just fine with the metrinch. I'm taking auto body courses at a community college and whenever I open my case up all the guys get a kick out of them, it's too funny even for me, but, someone always comes looking for a wrench and says, "hey these things aren't that bad after all"

Re: Metrinch tools

I've had my Metrinch set for over 10 years and it is not junk. The only problem I have is when you don't have a lot of room to turn the bolt/nut. The wrenches and sockets grab the sides, not the points and there is some play.

I love them for working on stuff that has both standard and metric.

Why carry twice the amount of wrenches and sockets?

If you ever see a set cheap give them a try.

I've got a small set of them along with several other gadget sockets. They work well in a pinch. I wouldn't try to use them full time as a mechanic but they are greta for a tool box in the truck.

It looks like a pretty smart design to me. The "play" looks like it would cause problems in tight places though. I wouldn't mind having a set to try out.

They may be a good idea, but at the rate that snap on, and mac tools get broken at our place, it probably wouldn't be a good idea. Dad was a mechanic for about 20 years, and I can assure you, they wouldn't be able to stand up to the daily grind in a working shop.
