I am so glad I found this FORUM. Yesterday I bought a mfg on a impulse. I could not pass up the price.
I will post some pics after I drive her home 2moro.
So many questions about this boat but first I will read up on this forum.
One thing I would like to ask is getting a windsheild. This boat did not come with one.

Re: MFG 1959 Oxford

Welcome ! I found a oldstock / in box at an old-time dealer (just celebrated 50years in buisness ) so keep looking !! Also salvage / old boat resellers may offer a few options . One place near me has 2 Mfg's and a couple of similar boats but quality is questionable.....I'm still using my oxford without one and kinda like it . Most of the early Mfg's had the windshield as an option too. peter
Near Saco river?

Happy Independence Day!!

Curious as to why you enjoy it with out windsheild??
I am thinking with the season already in motion, I will do as little as I have to so that I can get this boat n the water.
I can try to restore and play around this winter.
Do you know why there is huge chunks of foam stuffed in the bow? Looks like great storage space going to waste to me.. hmm

Re: MFG 1959 Oxford

The Bow is great storage . I got my 2 - 9gal portable tanks up there ! Even with the weight my 1980 50hp keeps the front up so i usualy don't get more than a light spray on me , so I don't mind . For me , I thought the windshield would be in the way of fishing .I have on a couple of occaisions hit big wakes and got wet , but it was warm so I didn't care.
Sounds like someone took out the flotation foam, or was trying to add some ?? Dont think the early boats had it as a standard yet. Or blocks to place the boat on if not stored on the trailer ?? peter

Congrats and welcome. Can't tell you how much help I've gotten from the folks in this forum. I could have never been able to resotore my 62 MFG Niagara without them. Maybe we'll see each other some time, I live in Topsham Maine.

Congrats on the MFG. Great Boats to own.

I've been rocking the "No Windshield Look" for three years and can honestly say it works out great. Especially for fishing.

I did P/U a wind shield for it at the end of last season "Not Original" but it fits just haven't put it on yet.

rsp95,
yes I can already tell I will be hanging out in this forum a lot. Stoked I found you guys...
vwfoolwhy,
Yes my mind is made up... going with the no windsheild look. Makes sense now.

So... these would be the "BEFORE" pics..
She needs some love.. But how can you pass her up for $300.00 for the whole shooting match?

Re: MFG 1959 Oxford

Mine had cable/pully too - just recently converted to a rotory sys. as long as you inspect the cables for cracks/wear/ brittleness you should be ok . !! I was more curious about wether the steering wheel was still stock..

Re: MFG 1959 Oxford

I have the same seats in my boat. I found them on the side of the road for free still wrapped in plastic.

Not the most comfortable but easy to clean.

Re: MFG 1959 Oxford

Looks like you are getting close! Just joined this sitr and a lot of cool stuff!I am going to pick up a free 1962 MFG 19' FiberGlass outboard style boat later today. Nothing but the hull, guy says floor and fiberglass repair all done. Trying to figure out what everything would cost to put in. Steering, motor, seats. Will have to see if this project is a go or no later.
