I am about to purchase an MFG vintage boat. I have gone to Glassics web site to view original dealer sales brocures. From what ive viewed the boat appears to look like a 1973 14 foot Carefree. It has a 35horse johnson ob. Boat needs some restoration work. Botttom was painted with an improper non marine grade paint which is now peeling. Seats which are the forward/aft type will need reupulstered. Any info you old boaters could help me with would be great. Pics of this carefree would be outstanding! Price for this boat is 250 dollars. Thanks in advance Mitch.

$250 is a good price. I assume it comes with a trailer. All the info I could find was that the boat was rated for a 40 hp, so the 35 should rreally get it moving.

I just traded a small air compressor for an old Westfield Custom that needs a complete transom rebuild.

Post some pics when you pick it up, that way you can get somemore advice.

Generally the boat and motor are bought new from the dealer. So get the model number off the plate on the motor, and go to the sticky section in Engine and Repair FAQ,, ID'ing a motor will give you the year and more than likely your exact year of boat. Check transom out for rot. When was motor last run ? Again if its been a few years again check out the FAQ in Engine and Repair on awakening a sleeping.....As far as the bottom it depends on how far you want to go in restoration.Fiberglassics.com has a write up in there research window
and that goes into great detail. Or use the search engine in restoration on this site. The 250 which is a good price is usually just the beginning. You can spread out what you want to put into her over time. So keep doing what you are doing now, asking questions in the right place.
