MFG Rub rail

Hi guys,
How come every MFG I look at has a problem with the rub rail? Specifically the vinyl inserts. Is it me? or do they all have a shrinkage problem? I've started to look around for a replacement. I've looked a Taco, but no luck. I know Fiberclassics has Wefco, I may give them a try... The last I heard from them was, they would custom make it. Gotta be expensive! Does anyone know of a source? I'd like to replace both the upper and lower (chine) inserts. If all else fails, would anyone want to go in with me to have it made? My boat is a '68 Edinboro. The upper insert is 7/8' wide and 1/2" tall in white. Many MFG models used it. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Ed

Taco makes the vinyl insert in black that fits most of the MFG's of that era with aluminum rub rail, it looks like this:

Its fairly inexpensive.

Thanks for the reply!

You are correct! The profile you posted will indeed fit allot of MFGs. It's a perfect match for my lower (chine) rail. However, my '68 Edinboro has a different upper rail. Don't know why....
This past summer, I was at a marine salvage yard and found a mid 60's Westfield that used it for both upper and lower. Original white too..I scoffed that right up thinking I'd hit the lottery!;) Anyway.... I sent a sample of my upper insert to Wefco rubber, should hear back soon! I'll let everyone know what I find out.

Woosterken,
Nice looking rig! I guess you are lucky to only have one rub rail. To tell you the truth, I'm not really sure what the correct term for the lower rail is. I call it a chine rail. Here is a picture of my boat when I first bought it. As you can see in the lower left I have an additional rail. Without an insert. Maybe someone who is more nautical minded than me knows exactly what to call it. Ed

ED,
I wonder if this it what the second rail is for? (guide rollers)
but as you can see my 17' does not have one,the stripe is just tape.
this was taken when I put the new diamond plate fenders
on .
